This week we discuss the horrible crimes committed by Todd Kohlhepp, the Amazon review killer. We will also read you some of the disturbing reviews he left on the popular shopping site alluding to his sinister acts. So this one is technically like it wasn't specifically my chaos, but it caused chaos in my life. Yeah. So uh my roommate who works very hard, um, he works like seven days a week during the week. He's a caretaker, and during weekends he helps me out at the salon as a receptionist. Um, but uh I think he may have strained himself a little too hard and he almost crushed a disc in his shoulder. Oh yeah. Um so uh while I was at my last manager meeting, um, I got a message from him um like pretty much saying like he couldn't move, he was in a lot of pain. So uh luckily my my boss was kind enough to let me um go take it out to take care of that. But yeah, I had to drive like I drove an hour to the meeting, I had to drive an hour away from the meeting just to rush back home and take him to the uh to the med clinic, which luckily um the doctor said that if he would have continued to push it, um it would have like crushed his disc and he would have had like permanent back uh pain.

So um I almost died at the salon from food poisoning. Oh god. No, I'm telling you, I'm I'm telling you, it was traumatic. Okay, so I'm cutting this little boy's hair, and my stomach starts doing that like tight thing, right? And I'm like, oh, that's really uncomfortable. And then I get literally halfway through this little boy's hair, and then I can feel it moving through my large intestine, and it is so painful that it is like stabbing, oh, stabbing pain, right? And I'm like, what the fuck? Right. And so I'm like, I'm gonna try and go faster, I'm gonna finish this little boy's hair, and then I'm gonna go to the bathroom and deal with myself.

Hold on, just a quick jump in. Um, as a hairdresser, when you have to go to the bathroom and you're in the middle of a haircut, it is the worst fucking feeling.

It is so bad. So then I start sweating. And that's when I know, like, I'm not gonna make it to the end of this haircut. I'm about to shake my pants on the salon floor. And so I turn to the manager who's literally in the station directly behind mine, and I I just kind of lean over to her because she's on the same side, like she's in the middle of the hallway as me. I lean over and go, um I am about to have a bathroom emergency. Can you please finish this haircut when you're done with the one you're doing? And she goes, Yeah. And so I calmly set my tools down and I walk straight to the bathroom without saying anything to that little boy, which is probably horrible. And I enter the bathroom. At this point, I'm in a full body sweat. Like I have never sweated from poops before. And so I sit down on the toilet, I almost slide the fuck off because I'm so damn sweaty. And then I proceed to have the most painful stomach cramps I've ever had from this. It was so bad. And so I'm like sitting there and I'm like, I'm like trying to poo. I can't. Nothing will come out. And I'm having horrible pains. I feel nauseous. So I like lean over and grab, grab the trash can, and I'm sitting there just dying. And after everything goes through, I'm expecting blood. No, thank God. None. Just regular, regular human clothes. But the cramps, the cramps lasted for over an hour and a half. So I literally, at one point, I was so drenched in sweat that I like ripped all my clothing except for my brawn underwear off. And I'm like, they're like the bathroom, and I'm like trying so hard to die. I'm sorry, don't come in here. I'm trying so hard and die silently in there half naked, and they're like, not they're all Chase. Um, are you okay? And I go, No, no, I'm not. I think I'm dying. And they go, do we need to call an ambulance?

And so I just continue to die in there for a solid hour and a half. It was probably longer than an hour and a half. It was very unpleasant. Um, apparently I'm allergic to arugula. Oh. Oh, well, that's good to know. It's great. It's like arugula. I, you know, they're like the 18th person to say that. But yeah, apparently I'm allergic to it. So you're allergic to a lot of things. You need to stop eating. Just I already don't eat enough times a day to be given time. So yeah, that's why is my chaos always like a full-blown ass story, though? I feel like Sarah Chalk was like, and then and then the person and the car, and that's how Zach Raff says that she tells stories, by the way. And I just identify with it so fucking much. So let's get chaotic. All righty. So this chaos is actually a part two. A part two chaos. Yeah. If y'all were here last week, then you heard the first half of Todd Colehip, which is a story of the Amazon review killer. And if you didn't listen to the first half, I'm gonna need you to stop right now and go back and listen to episode 28, please, so that you know who we're talking about and why he's such a fucking psychopath. So that being said, so let's go ahead and we're gonna discuss the incidents. Yes. The da da da in incidents because traumatic. It's traumatic, yeah. So uh trigger warning for this entire episode, we will be discussing some pretty sensitive topics. And if you don't want to hear about unaliving NSA, please uh tune out and tune back into the next one because we want to respect anyone who doesn't want to hear this, even if we would love for you to listen to us. So okay, so quick recap. This is Todd Colhip, who is known as the Amazon Review Killer, and um he was born Todd Christopher Samson on March 7th, 1971. Uh, he is a Florida man. His mom got remarried to a man named Carl Colhip, which he eventually took his name because he was adopted by him. He was um violent as a child, he injured animals, but he was also abused, abandoned, and um hit with a cattle prod by his grandpa. So he was very angry and combative, and he lured a young woman out of her home to rape her when he was 15. He served 15 years uh in prison for that. And while he was there, he got his bachelor's degree in computer science, eventually went on to get a marketing degree, and purchased a hundred acres of land um and put an $80,000 fence around it. So uh that's your quick recap on his story. His personality was uh not described very nicely by most people. He was they did say that he was um smart and intelligent, but um yeah, wolf and sheep's clothing. And but they did say he was uh different, lots of different alludes to the devil, basically, in in here. He was described in many ways that most people would consider narcissistic. So um he was also diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. So um, this is uh several years after he was released from prison. So he was released in 2001 and had several jobs that he worked on until he became a realtor and became a very uh successful one. So at one point, he was allegedly left out of the Superbike Motor Store after being denied trying to return a bike to the store. And this was on November 6th, 2003. That's my birthday. I turned 13 that year. Ironic. That was the year that I turned 13, and we're recording on Friday 13th. Um no, so he on so he was trying to return a bike, and they did not only denied him, but they laughed at him about it, and this pissed him off. So on November 6th, 2003, he returned with a gun and he killed the 30-year-old owner of the shop named Scott Ponder, his 52-year-old mom, Beverly, the 29-year-old store manager Brian Lucas, and a 26-year-old mechanic from the store named Chris Sherbert. Wow. Four people. Investigators believe that he entered through the back of the store to assault them. And at the scene, they found 18 shell casings from a 9mm gun, and some were brass and others were nickel-plated. 27 different guns would be con would be confiscated and tested over the years to see if they matched, but none of them would turn up to be a match. They even sent some of the shell casings off to be tested for fingerprints, but they never got anything out of it. And it would be over a decade before he would be caught for those four murders.

I wonder what how I wonder what how why it took so long. Because there wasn't enough, like he didn't have um, so this was back, it seems like it was not that long, like not that long ago, but apparently, like they actually had to send the shell casings to like England to be looked at for fingerprints because it was such new technology, apparently. Oh wow, yeah. It's crazy to see how fast technology has advanced. Right. This next part's super traumatizing, and I'm gonna feel bad when I hand it to you because it's not gonna be fun to read any of the next few pages out loud. Just so you know. Okay. I am pretty comfortable over. I know that we have a microphone. I know that we are uh I know that we are at a comedy podcast. This is gonna be real hard to be funny for this episode.

No, no, no, trust me, I do not expect this episode to be funny. We're talking about a man who raped a woman, and these are some incidences that he had. Afterwards. Afterwards, as an adult? Yeah, no, I can only imagine how bad it's gonna get. Uh, do do do do on August 31st, 2016, Kayla Brown, 30, and her boyfriend Charles David Carver, 32, went missing after they were hired to remove brush from one of Colep's properties.

No, yeah. The search for the two started after some posts were made on Carver's Facebook account that were suspiciously out of character, making it seem as though someone else had taken control of it. The confidence. Oh my god. Investigators tracked them down by tracing the couple's last known cell phone signals. Okay. That's smart. When they arrived on the property, they heard banging noises coming from inside the metal storage container on the property. Wow. On November 3rd, authorities found Brown chained by the neck and ankles to the wall inside metal storage container on the property. Holy crap. She had been in there for over two months. Oh my god. Carver was found dead of multiple gunshots on the property. Oh. They searched the property and recovered Carver's vehicle, which was covered in brush in a ravine. Oh, okay, so it just hit everything.

Just the blatant confidence to you know what I mean? Just like, oh, I'm just gonna do this, and no one will ever know.

Well, yeah, I mean, he had that freaking big ass fence around his house, and it's crazy to think how easy it was for him to hide this for two months. Right. Brown said that she saw Kolop shoot Carver. Kolop's mother said he killed Carver for having a really smart mouth, which he did not like. Naturally anger issues, right? Yeah, naturally, of course. It's the only option. Coleb also said that he kept Brown captive because she didn't do anything wrong and he didn't want to hurt her.

He didn't want to hurt her, but he changed her up in a fucking storage container, like at the in in cold months, by the way. You know, this is what August, end of August, so October and November? Yeah, no, come on.

Brown told police after her rescue that Colep had killed Carver because he was mad at her.

Oh. So he did it out of like revenge against her, even though she did nothing wrong.

So there is a trigger warning on this next part. Um, so during her time in the container, she was raped repeatedly and intimidated into not escaping by being shown the graves of his other victims. Oh wow. So at this point he already We already know that there's more than just one.

Just like she's not the first one. And that goes to you goes to wonder, like, what was the plan? Yeah. You know what I mean?

I mean, the the plan's obviously because he has other victims on the property already. Coleb was arrested shortly after Brown's rescue. Thank God. So I guess during the arrests and everything, during this, he confessed to the Chesney shootings and the murders of the Coxies. In exchange for that, uh, he was allowed to talk to his mother, give her a photograph, and transfer money into a college fund for a friend's child.

Oh, so he wants to do one good thing.

Uh I I uh I I don't I don't want to assume that it didn't come with like some kind of string attached. Right. It was either probably like, okay, I'm gonna put this in your child's college fund now. Right, yeah. Some bullshit like that. When talking with his mother, he allegedly confessed to the killings, telling her there were many other victims. When she asked how many, he reportedly said, You do not have enough fingers. Um, it's just not good. It's not good. It's not good. While being interrogated, he said he had shot a victim in Arizona, but they haven't linked him to any unsolved cases as of yet. When he confessed to the Chestney shootings, he mentioned details of the case that had never been made public. Oh. The search of his property turned up numerous firearms and ammunition, including suppressors and semi-automatic rifles. Because of his criminal past, it is believed he acquired these illegally. So of course.

Yeah. I mean, what else would you expect from this guy at this point? Before I go on. So a man named Dustin Lawson did admit to buying at least 12 different firearms and five silencers for Kohlhe. And when he did it, he lied that they were for himself. So in 2018, he did plead guilty to 36 firearm charges and was sentenced to a little over eight years in prison, basically for his involvement in this case. Relatives of the victims of the Chesney shootings have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him. And it was announced on December 1st in 2016 that Kayla Brown filed a civil lawsuit against Colep for um kidnapping her, imprisoning her, and uh raping her multiple times. So that's that's the good news, I guess. If there's any kind of good news to this, so can actually like hold him accountable for his actions that he's being held accountable. So while he was under arrest, Colep revealed the location of two more bodies on his property and confessed to the murders of 29-year-old Johnny Joe Coxey and 26-year-old Megan Lee McCraw Coxey. Uh, they had been missing since December 22nd of 2015. So they had been missing for almost a whole year at this point when he confessed to killing them. And they had also been hired to clean his home. So uh it seems like that was kind of his MO. And then kill them. Mm-hmm. So Megan had been killed by gunshot wound to the head on December 25th or 26th. Merry fucking Christmas. And Johnny had been killed about a week earlier by gunshot wound to the torso, and they were identified by the tattoos that they had on their bodies. So yeah. Let's let's life just a little bit, okay? Because, you know, we are a comedy podcast, and that is where they have.

Oh the laughter is out of uncomfortableness, not because I actually think any of this is funny. He was charged with seven counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and one account of sexual assault. One that pisses me off. Just because it's one person doesn't mean it's one incident.

We don't even know what if he did that to Megan McCrock Oxy. So yeah, that's just really disappointing. But luckily, with seven counts of murder, he's probably not seeing outside of bars anytime soon. So his court appearance was scheduled for January 17th in 2017. And since Kohlhip was in a detention center on no bond, thank God, he was not able to attend because they don't bring inmates to those hearings.

So um they ended up having to reschedule it. So Kohlhip's attorney also waived his right to appearance there, and so they had to reschedule it. And Colep. Pleaded guilty on May 26th of 2017 for seven counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of criminal sexual assault. He received seven consecutive life sentences without possibility of parole after taking a plea deal that spared him from the death penalty. I'm gonna be honest, um, I don't think that the death penalty is the best uh form of punishment out there, you know. Um, but not because I'm like, no, it's not our right to take their lives. Like I do believe that, but also for a much probably more sinister reason, I think that they should rot. I think that they should, you know, sit there and deal with what they've done and suffer for it. And I think that when you give them the easy way out, that that's not a punishment, you know. You know, it's it's stories like these sometimes where I think we should bring back like public execution.

Well, for what it's worth, states that do still have the death penalty do offer um viewing for the family of victims and sometimes family of the person that's uh being unalived. So um, yeah, in December 2017, Colhep wrote to the Spartanburg Herald Journal, claiming that he had more victims who had still not been discovered yet, but has not provided any other information regarding their identities or whereabouts. So there's that. And finally, um, one thing that Colhep did was he would purchase items off of Amazon, he would use them in his murders and in capturements, and then he would leave reviews on Amazon alluding to these crimes. Oh, so this is where the name comes from. This is where the name comes from. So these are during this whole thing. I'm like, what does this have to do with Amazon? Right, exactly. And so um Ali's gonna read us the review. Some are yeah, some of the reviews and snippets of the reviews that uh Koh left on Amazon. Just so you know, they're slightly disturbing because you know exactly what he's talking about now that you've listened to two full episodes on this man.

Shortly after Colhab's arrest, authorities in Spartanburg County discovered a number of what seems to be joking product reviews for various items, such as padlocks, shovels, tasers, and gun accessories on Amazon.

He left a trail of around 140 chicken skin-inducing Amazon reviews that alluded to his crimes written by the user known simply as me. Why does that make it so much grosser? I don't know. I don't like that. It does. The reviews wish list page was listed as Todd Cullip. One review about a padlock stated, solid locks have five on a shipping container. Ew. Won't stop them, but sure will slow them down till they are too old to care.

Does not come with a midget, which would have been nice. Oh my god.

On another review of a knife posted on September 13th, 2014, he said, haven't stabbed anyone yet. Oh. Yet. But I am keeping the dream alive, and when I do, it will be with a quality tool like this. You know what's crazy? But I mean, like this point, he was what? Okay, so he was 30 in 2001. Right? Okay, so this is 2014. He is 13 years older. 43. Yeah.

But he got arrested again. Jeez. That's crazy. He gave five stars to a shovel, mentioning it was well made for his purposes. For a chainsaw, he left. Works excellent. Getting the neighbor to stand still while you chase him with it is hard enough without having a easy to use chainsaw.

That's disgusting, disturbing. Ugh. Yeah. And just like the way that he joked, it just shows a blatant disregard for human life in general, you know. Like that's what so sociopath behavior. Yeah. Very, very disrespectful to them as well as his victims. Like, you know what I mean? It's just not that you would expect respect for his victims, but just yeah, there's blatant disregard for life. So, real quick, I do want to uh pay honor to his his victims. There was Christy Grenado, who survived, but she had disappeared on November 25th, 1986. And that was his first victim. She was 14 years old. And then there is Scott Ponder, Brian Lucas, Chris Sherbert, and Beverly Guy, who all passed away November 6, 2003. Um, they are the victims of the uh the break-in at the bike shop, and there's Johnny Joe Coxy and Megan Lee McCraw Coxey, who were at the end of December, um, the 19th for Johnny and either the 25th or 26th for Megan. And they were the ones that uh he had showed their graves to Kayla when she was locked up in the in the storage container. And then of course we have Kayla Brown who also survived and was kidnapped on August 31st, 2016, with her boyfriend Charles David Carver, uh, who did not survive. So um all of my I do want to list my resources, all that's interesting, Wikipedia, CBS News, NBC News, and Fox News. And um, that is it for the highly disturbing case of the Amazon review killer. Who's still alive and in jail, who's still alive and in jail and never gonna get out ever. So you wanna pull an abstract advice for us, Allie? Yeah, actually. Let's see. Oh, that's that's the one I was drawn to as well this week. Oh, they were stuck together.
